Hair Q & A's

Q. Hello, I am fourteen years old.  I have always wanted to highlight my hair but wasn't sure how it would look.  I am pretty fair and have quite a bit of freckles on my face and arms.  Right now I have medium brown hair but like I said- I would love to try some highlights and almost look dirty blonde. Any advice? Thanks, Laurel

A. There’s only one way to find out how it’ll look and that’s to go for it and have it coloured! You won’t look back. Highlighting through the top/parting of your hair will be enough to get the result your after. We always carry out an in depth consultation with you to come up with the best course of action.

We have different levels of stylists to suit you – you also qualify for our 15% student discount.

Q. I have coloured treated hair with highlights added. My hair is extremely dry and is looking like straw. I have tried every hair brand except yours, please help me by telling me what products would be best to use to get my hair shiny and healthy looking. Thanks Katie, Stockton Heath.

A. First use the Biolage Fortifying System which will repair your dry and damaged hair by 90% stronger in 10 days. There is a shampoo, conditioner and Leave In. These products have ceremedes which will restructure your bonds. Then you can use Biolage Color care shampoo and conditioner.

Q: I’ve had my hair short for a few years now and I want to try something different. How do I grow out a shorter style that looks good as it gets longer?

A: The key to growing your hair from a short style is to have regular maintenance cuts as your hair is growing. This will ensure your hair is always looking great and you will be less inclined to get it all cut off again out of frustration! Using the correct products suited to your hairs current length is always key.

Q: I have dry and brittle hair that I constantly straighten. What can I do to make it look and feel healthy and shiny again?

A: Hair that requires frequent straightening needs moisture to ensure it remains shiny and managable. Using the correct MATRIX products along with intensive treatments will ensure glossy, healthy, pliable hair. Try using MATRIX Cera repair 'Hydra Therapie' treatments once a week along with the Smooth therapie rang of shampoos, conditioners & styling products.

Q: My hair’s limp and greasy and I have to wash it constantly, what can I be doing wrong?

A: This is a common complaint, especially among people with finer hair. There can be a whole number of reaons why your hair gets oily quickly. Avoid touching your hair too much as this will distribute more oil through your hair. Try using a deep cleansing/clarifying shampoo - MATRIX Alternate Action shampoo is great, or the Amplify range of products are ideal. Having some colour in your hair usually helps too.

Q: I’ve only ever used home hair colour systems but really want a vibrant fantastic colour that doesn’t go dull straightaway – my hair is mainly one colour dark brown, what can you recommend?

A: The key to achieving vibrant, fade free colours is to ensure your hair is in the best possible condition, before and after having the colour done. If you've been applying your own colour at home we will probably have to gently strip out whats left of it before applying the new shade. We always recommend a FREE in depth consultation a few days prior to having the colour. We will also carry out a skin test at this stage.
